Caring for your new violin

A few simple habits will keep your instrument sounding its best.

  • Keep it in its case whenever you are not playing, away from pets, small children, and busy walkways.

  • Avoid extremes of temperature and humidity. Never leave it in a car, next to a radiator, or in direct sun by a window.

  • Wipe rosin dust off the strings and body with a dry, soft cloth after every session. Never use household cleaners or furniture polish.

  • Loosen the bow hair when you finish playing, and try not to touch the hair with your fingers.
